The Byers Family
Mole St. Nicholas, Haiti
Rich Byers and his family currently work with teenage boys in Mole St. Nicholas, Haiti. They are teaching them English and seeking to show them that God's ways work in real-life situations. One of the ways they are doing this is by working with the boys to build Mole's first shade house garden. The Byers are using this as a community education opportunity, and are hoping that the community will have several of these shade house gardens in the next few years.
The Byers family were called to Haiti in 2004 to work with a tech/trade school development project, which had fallen into a seemingly terminal state of delay. They worked with that project for several months, finishing the building; the school is now open, staffed with Haitians, and functional on at least a limited basis. No longer needed there, the Byers have been searching for God's will for their future there in NW Haiti. He has placed a great burden on them to simply live alongside the Haitian people, teaching by example and finding creative ways to help them live productive lives, both spiritually and physically. They feel very strongly that change in Haiti needs to come from within, and that they need to work with kids and youth, who truly are the hope for Haiti's future.
Another of Rich Byers' desires has been to work and walk alongside the Haitian pastors, helping them to implement God's principles in their churches and to get them into the daily lives of the Haitians or, "into the street," as the Haitian people say. God has provided the Byers the opportunity to work with churches, as in January, they will begin a three-month orientation period with Baptist Haitian Mission, BHM. After that, Lord willing, they will work with the 50 churches in their zone of Haiti, who are affiliated with BHM.
The Byers' calling, plan and desire is to do kingdom work in Haiti long-term.

Ron Hock
Prison Ministry
Fort Walton Beach, Florida
In 1988, Ron went into Atmore Prison to share about Jesus with the inmates and ended up playing softball with them. It was then that the Lord put something in his heart and Ron boldly proclaimed that he could put a softball team together that could beat the prison team. Thus was born the Prison Ministry. Ever since that first game, Ron has played prison softball games throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas. In 2004, Ron sold his local sporting goods store in Fort Walton Beach, Sports 2000, so that he could devote more time to the Prison Ministry. This has allowed him to not only play over 100 games a year in prisons, but share the love of Christ to people that are in real need of the Lord's loving touch. He has also been able to spend a year with death row inmates in Atmore. When not working with prisoners, Ron shares his talents and gifts with the local community by umpiring high school and adult ball games.
If you would like to go with Ron or support the Prison Ministry, please contact him. Get ready for a life changing experience!
